RuCl₃ (Ruthenium Trichloride)

A layered van der Waals transition-metal halide, typically the α-phase with space group C2/m. The Ru³⁺ ions form a honeycomb lattice, and strong spin-orbit coupling combined with bond-dependent exchange makes α-RuCl₃ a leading candidate for the Kitaev quantum spin liquid. It orders antiferromagnetically (zigzag order, T_N ≈ 7 K) at zero field, but an in-plane magnetic field suppresses this order and drives the system into a proposed field-induced spin-liquid state, where a half-quantized thermal Hall effect has been reported as a signature of Majorana fermions, making it a central platform for studying Kitaev physics and fractionalized excitations.

Growth method: Chemical vapor transport (CVT).

Sample specifications: Individual crystals measure approximately 3 mm, with a purity of up to 99.9999% (6N), and multiple high-quality single-crystal pieces included in each package.

Exfoliation: Easy — readily cleaved into thin flakes by standard mechanical exfoliation.
