A layered van der Waals transition-metal halide, space group P3̄m1, in which Mn²⁺ ions form a triangular lattice. Owing to geometric frustration and competing exchange interactions, it hosts a helical (chiral) antiferromagnetic order at low temperature (T_N ≈ 3.4 K) that breaks inversion symmetry and induces a type-II multiferroic state, coupling magnetism to electric polarization. This makes MnI₂ an important model system for studying frustrated triangular-lattice magnetism, chiral spin textures, and magnetoelectric multiferroicity.

Growth method: Chemical vapor transport (CVT).

Sample specifications: Individual crystals measure approximately 3 mm, with a purity of up to 99.9999% (6N), and multiple high-quality single-crystal pieces included in each package.

Exfoliation: Easy — readily cleaved into thin flakes by standard mechanical exfoliation.
