CuVP₂S₆ (Copper Vanadium Phosphorus Trisulfide)

A layered van der Waals metal phosphochalcogenide of the CuInP₂S₆-related family, space group P2/c, in which Cu⁺ and V cations jointly occupy the octahedral sites of the P₂S₆ framework. It combines (anti)ferroelectric polar order arising from off-centering of the Cu⁺ ions with magnetism from the V magnetic ions, making it one of the few candidate multiferroics that unite ferroelectricity and magnetism in a single two-dimensional material. This coexistence of polar and magnetic order makes CuVP₂S₆ an important platform for studying two-dimensional multiferroicity, magnetoelectric coupling, and spin-polarization coupling.
