AgVP₂Se₆ (Silver Vanadium Phosphorus Triselenide)

A layered van der Waals metal phosphochalcogenide of the CuInP₂S₆-related family, in which Ag⁺ and magnetic V cations occupy the octahedral sites of the P₂Se₆ framework. It combines polar (ferroelectric/antiferroelectric) orderarising from off-centering of the Ag⁺ ions with magnetism from the V sublattice, making it a candidate two-dimensional multiferroic; selenization gives it a narrower bandgap and stronger spin-orbit effects than its sulfide analogue. This coexistence of switchable polarization and magnetic order makes AgVP₂Se₆ an important platform for studying two-dimensional multiferroicity and magnetoelectric coupling.
