Gadolinium Tritelluride (GdTe₃)
GdTe₃ is structurally analogous to LaTe₃ (orthorhombic, space group Cmcm) and likewise hosts a high-temperature charge density wave within the Te square-net planes. The key difference is that Gd³⁺ is a strongly magnetic ion (f⁷, S = 7/2, with a large local moment), causing GdTe₃ to enter antiferromagnetic order at low temperatures (with a Néel temperature in the range of about 7–12 K). GdTe₃ therefore becomes a rare platform where CDW and long-range magnetic order coexist, useful for studying the coexistence and competition of charge order and spin order. In addition, GdTe₃ is noted for its exceptionally high carrier mobility and excellent transport quality, making it an ideal material for exploring correlated-electron physics in rare-earth tritellurides.
