CrCl₃ (Chromium Trichloride)

A layered van der Waals transition-metal halide, space group C2/m (low-temperature R3̄ stacking), in which Cr³⁺ ions form a honeycomb lattice. It is a two-dimensional magnet exhibiting easy-plane (in-plane) anisotropy, with intralayer ferromagnetic coupling and interlayer antiferromagnetic order (T_N ≈ 14–17 K). Its contrast with the easy-axis magnet CrI₃ makes CrCl₃ an important model system for studying XY-type two-dimensional magnetism, magnetic anisotropy engineering, and spin-wave physics in van der Waals magnets.
