Tantalum Ditelluride (TaTe₂)
Unlike the two materials above, TaTe₂ is a Group-V transition metal ditelluride and is metallic in nature. It is also derived from a distorted 1T phase, adopting a monoclinic structure with space group C2/m, in which the Ta atoms aggregate into "double zigzag chains" or ribbon-like clusters driven by a Charge Density Wave (CDW)-type distortion. TaTe₂ exhibits metallic conductivity and undergoes structural phase transitions and charge-density-wave transitions with temperature, accompanied by strong electron correlation effects. As such, it is frequently used as a model material for studying charge-density-wave physics and correlated electron systems, rather than as a semiconductor device material.
